Son of Louis XIII and Anne of Austria.
King of France
( 05-14-1643 / 09-01-1715 ).
Born 09-05-1638 in Versailles ( France ).
Died 09-01-1715 in Versailles ( France ).
After the death of his father Louis XIII
he became King of France at the young
age of 5.
His mother Anne of Austria became regent
of France during his minority.
But the real power was wielded by Anne’s
adviser, cardinal Mazarin.
Only after the death of cardinal Mazarin in
1661 he became ruler of France.
Louis XIV was the longest reigning
monarch in European history, until today.
One of his famous quotes :
L'état c'est moi! "I am the State!"
After his death he was succeeded by his great-grandson Louis XV.

He married Maria Teresa in 1660, daughter of Felipe IV of Spain.
In 1685/1686 he married Madame de Maintenon,
after death of Maria Teresa in 1683.
